On March 17, 2023 we celebrated our relationship with Nepal.
We were so fortunate to have  Ambassador Sridhar Khatri and others from the Embassy of Nepal and consulate with us as well as Krishna Shah and many of the artists who have made hand-knotted rugs with us. Celebrating sustainability. Celebrating our relationship with GoodWeave. Celebrating talented artists.

SUNSET PERFORMANCE:

September 10th, between 146th-147th, Riverside Park Waterfront. 6:00-6:30 pm arrival. 7:00 performance (10 minutes only so be on time!)

Guests are invited to arrive between 6:00 and 6:30 where they can gather to look at public artwork by Glen Wilson, Joiri Minaya, Shuli Sadé, Joshua Goode and Niki Lederer. Some of these artists will be beside their works. At 7:00 pm the ten minutes performance will begin. It will end just as the sun is setting.

Lorenz' ongoing project The Tide and Current Taxi takes participants through New York waterways in boats that she designs and builds, using tidal current to propel the boat. The art object is the medium between the artist’s experience and the viewer’s receptivity; it functions as the mile-markers in our shared experience-- it is at the core of work of artist Marie Lorenz.  In July, we jumped in a little hand-made row boat with Marie, and paddled away from Randall’s Island, through the churning waters of Hell's Gate, disembarking on Mill Island, deserted except for the many birds startled by our arrival.  We poked around a while, collected an old object that looked like a pirate scabbard and rowed back to civilization.

Newtown Odyssey is a collaboration between Dana Spiotta (libretto) Kurt Rohde(music/sound) and Marie Lorenz (installation). This floating opera is set on an industrial canal in NYC. The song Gaia/Gyre/Siren is an aria from the opera and is performed by singer Charlotte Mundy. This song is about filth, sadness, and beauty.   During the event Lorenz will be in her boat just offshore with handmade instruments and Mundy will be singing on shore.

Lorenz special sunset event on the evening of September 10th marks the concluding few days Re:Growth Riverside.

DIRECTIONS:

We invite guests to arrive between 6:00 and 6:30 where they can gather to look at work by Glen Wilson, Joiri Minaya, Shuli Sadé, Joshua Goode and Niki Lederer. Some of these artists will be beside their works that evening. At 7:00 pm the ten minutes performance will begin. It will end just as the sun is setting. The performance is only 10 minutes so be on time!

Directions: There are two footbridges that access this area of Riverside Park. We will have someone at the top of each footbridge from 6-7 pmts help direct you

The first is at 145th and Riverside Drive. It is the footbridge to River Bank Park. One enters, walks to the Riverbank State park plaza, winds their way to the right towards an overlook and either takes a stairway down or a slow but trusty elevator to get to the waterfront level.

The second is at 151st and Riverside Drive. There is a beautiful stone stairway down to the Denny Farrell footbridge. At the base of the stairs you will see a Joiri Minaya art work on the cast iron fence. Take the bridge west towards the water. At the bottom to the pedestrian path that goes along the river and walk south. You will pass work by Shuli Sade, Joshua Goode, Niki Lederer and Glen Wilson.

BravinLee is pleased to have curated a small group of artists to create rugs for West Elm.

Samantha Bittman is a Brooklyn-based artist specializing in colorful woven pieces that celebrate her expert eye for intricate, geometric patterns. For West Elm she’s created an exclusive rug in collaboration with BravinLee Programs. Anna Kunz is a Chicago-based artist who aims to expand the notions of paintings from just a 2D space to encompassing architecture + more. Her paintings, sculptures + installations have been exhibited internationally. For West Elm she’s translated her mastery of hue + form to our exclusive rug created in collaboration with BravinLee Programs. Warren Isensee is a New York City-based artist whose work has been displayed in galleries for over 20 years. With a focus on the relationship colors have with each other, his pieces inhabit many forms. We worked with Warren to translate a painting that showcases his unique artistic vision to an exclusive rug in collaboration with BravinLee Programs.
